Located at the Intersection of West Street and Richmond Street, this private residence was developed on one of only 10 residential lots that have deeded access to the Charlottetown harbour. The concept grew out of the owners' desire to maximize water views and connection to the harbour, while aiming to respect the street level view and public access to site-lines to the mouth of the harbour. 

 

Located in the historic 500 Lot area of Charlottetown, the contemporary design is contextualized through traditional materials of wood siding and Wallace sandstone – a familiar material present in historic structures throughout the city. 

 

The resulting form elevates a traditional gable form, anchored to the inland side by a heavy sandstone base, transitioning to a series of pier-like columns toward the water. The upper volume shifts toward the harbour, cantilevering 16’ to create a covered outdoor space, while framing a view of the harbour from the street.
